Katy BucklinThis week we recognize 18-year-old Katy Bucklin as a True Leader in 4-H. Katy has been in the 4-H program for 3 years and enjoys competing in Dressage horse competitions, photography, and hiking. Read below to learn more about Katy and how 4-H has impacted her life.
What is your favorite component of the 4-H Program? *
My favorite component of 4-H is its great ability to bring the community together. Before joining 4-H, I didn’t feel connected with my community and I felt lost. Now I feel like I am apart of my community and that my service (volunteering) is making a difference.

What does 4-H mean to you? *
4-H means a lot to me as It has helped me develop as an individual. Before 4-H I was just me but now I am bigger than that because I am apart of a whole, a community that is strong and focused on bettering each other and our world.

What is your most memorable 4-H moment? *
My favorite memory is the first time I was an ambassador for Dancin’ in The Clover event. It was fun, and I enjoyed helping all of the wonderful guests.

What makes you a True Leader in 4-H? *
To be a True Leader you must be fair. In our county teen council, we have a lot of different voices. It would be easy to get overwhelmed and get hard-headed and not listen to your fellow 4-Hers. It is our job as true leaders to listen to everyone’s voice and encourage one another to push beyond what we thought was possible.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why? *
If I could be an animal I would be a dog. Dogs are charismatic and free-willed who also get to sleep a lot. That life is the life I want to live.
