Chowan FFA organized our Barn Buddies Show this year, in partnership with the Edenton Chowan Schools Exceptional Children’s Department. Students from White Oak Elementary were paired with a lamb or goat livestock exhibitor. Students and livestock exhibitors walked around the show ring together and then were presented with a medal. Great job Barn Buddies!
The order of events for the livestock show were: Cloverbud Hogs, Hog Market, Cloverbud Goats, Goat Market, Goat Showmanship, Cloverbud Lambs, Lamb Market, Lamb Showmanship, Hog Showmanship. We had ten Cloverbud exhibitors showing three goats, three lambs and four hogs. Cloverbud exhibitors are between the ages of 5 and 7. They do not compete in market classes, but they gain experience in the show ring by answering the judge’s questions and walking their animals around. Youth ages 8 to 18 compete in market and showmanship classes. Awards were given for Grand, Reserve and Third place animals in market competition. First, Second, and Third place awards were given for both junior and senior showmanship classes.
The Grand Champion hog was exhibited by Camryn Pippins, daughter of Mike and Alison Pippins. The Reserve Champion hog was exhibited by Brayden Pippins, son of J.P. and Megan Pippins. The Third Place hog was exhibited by Chloe Chappell, daughter of Quintin and Melissa Chappell.
