Step Into a Story: Arboretum StoryWalk Brings Books to Life for Kids

Edenton, NC – N.C. Cooperative Extension – Chowan County Center is excited to announce a brand new outdoor adventure for local children and families — the Arboretum StoryWalk! This fun, self-guided reading trail invites young readers to enjoy a picture book, one page at a time, while walking through the scenic grounds of the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Chowan County Center Arboretum.
The StoryWalk is open to the public and will be available throughout the summer for families to enjoy! The June featured book is “Tales of the Dairy Godmother: Chuck’s Ice Cream Wish” by Viola Butler. Be sure to check out all of the frames as there is a sweet treat waiting at the end of the story. Books will change on a monthly basis.
“The StoryWalk is a simple but effective way to promote literacy, movement, and time in nature,” said Camaryn Brantley, Extension Agent, 4-H Youth Development at N.C. Cooperative Extension – Chowan County Center. “It’s designed for young readers but the whole family will enjoy the experience.”
The StoryWalk is free and open to the public daily during daylight hours and is especially perfect for preschoolers, early elementary students, homeschool groups, and caregivers looking for a fun, screen-free outing.
A special thank you to the Albemarle EMC Albemarle Community Trust for helping make this StoryWalk possible.
